Promedicare’s distribution partner for Ireland is Allphar Services, a division of the Uniphar Group. Uniphar PLC is an Irish company owned by more than 420 Pharmacists. Uniphar operate a world class logistics network, using the most advanced technology available including the most technologically advanced facility of its kind in Ireland and the UK.
Allphar operates Promedicare’s warehousing, logistics and distribution services from its strategically located campus at Citywest in Dublin, with three local depots in Cork, Limerick and Sligo.
Allphar has invested €65 million in the main 180,000 ft² warehouse facility in a 12 acre site in Citywest, Dublin, which is built to the exacting demands of the pharmaceutical and medical distribution business.
The facility has a unique A-frame to replenish fast-moving stock and uses a ‘pick-by-light’ technology for accurate, precise location and delivery of products. Allphar provides:
- 180,000sq ft temperature controlled warehouse
- 10,000 pallet space warehouse
- more than 300 cold storage pallet spaces in fully alarmed cold rooms
- highly secure controlled drugs storage facility of up to 220 pallet spaces
- temperature controlled transport
- warehouse management system incorporating batch control and traceability
- dedicated areas for goods in, dispatch, quarantine and returns
- complete management of samples/literature storage
All products are stored and delivered according to GDP (good distribution practice), and our service is certified to EN ISO 9001: 2008.
Allphar’s warehouse management system and EPOD (Electronic Proof of Delivery) systems ensure that all deliveries are electronically tracked at every step from warehouse to Promedicare’s customers.
Allphar is dedicated to continuous improvement and updating of their IT and infrastructure systems.
Allphar maintains regular contact with the various officers of the Department of Health, GMS and the Irish Medicines Board and provides advice and assistance on local regulatory and legislative issues.
Through Allphar, Promedicare provides scheduled daily deliveries to the 180 hospitals around the country and daily deliveries to community pharmacies, general practitioners, clinics and private hospitals.

With the purchase of the Cahill May Roberts business in 2013, Uniphar are now the largest provider to the independent pharmacy sector in Ireland. The new enlarged business commands some 60% market share of independent community pharmacy and approximately 50% of the total available market (excluding short line wholesalers and some limited number of direct suppliers). In the hospital sector Uniphar now supply approximately €200m of pharmaceutical products accounting for some 60% of purchases in this sector.
